The weather in Xanthi

Xanthi is a very beautiful city, known for its carnival festival, the second biggest festival of Greece. The old city is full of colors. Paved streets, preservable buildings, cafes and restaurants are embellishing the city center and the river banks, creating a unique atmosphere. Some of the most important sightseeings of Xanthi are:

• Nestos river delta (with coastal lagoons, protected birds, valleys, gorge), ideal destination for canoe, kayak, rafting

Xanthi prefecture has a lot of dreaming coasts, Maganas, Porto Lagos, Mirodato. At the beach Mandra, Avdira area there is the only one camping of the town, Natura camping (it offers tents, reed cabins or caravans for rental). At the borders of Xanthi with Bulgaria you can find the thermal springs of Genisaia – Potamia (curative for those who suffer from chronic rheumatism, gynecological ailments, neuralgia, neuritis, allergic skin ailments). Τhe local cuisine has a lot of influences from Anatolia, Turkey, Pomaki (Bulgarian tribes) and the traditional dishes include different kinds of spices, pork meats, turkish delights, syrup deserts.

RODOPI PREFECTURE

The weather in Komotini

If you visit Komotini you will find out a city, full of life, due to its university students. Some of the sites to visit are:

• Nimfaias recreation grove 

• The remains of Byzantine Walls

• Kikones vineyard (do not miss out on tasting excellent wine from Thrace)

• The local open market (bazaar).

Some of the cosmopolitan beaches of Komotini are: Fanari, Arogi, Mesi. There is only one camping Kryoneri of Maronia-Sapes area. At Maronia you can participate on trekking routes, canoe-kayak activities, visit caves, at Pandroso village you can visit the local taverns and taste greek goat cooked in flower-pot. Other delicious dishes of local cuisine are lachmatzoun, soutzouk turkish delight, kazan-ntipi (great sweet). Βefore leaving the town, do not hesitate to purchase  fresh coffee from local coffee grinders.

EVROS PREFECTURE

The weather in Alexandroupolis

Alexandroupolis is an outstanding coastal city, connecting Europe with Asia, East and West. A tourist has a lot of places of interest to visit:

• Dadia Forest

• Cave of Polyphemus

• The Evros (river) delta (with lots of paths to walk)

• Thermal springs of Traianoupolis (curative for those who suffer from Balneotherapy for ailments of the integumentary system and the musculoskeletal system, as well as for rheumatism and autoimmune diseases).

• Silk museum of Soufli.

Alexandroupolis has a ferry connection with Samothraki island. There are a lot of picturesque beaches: Agia Paraskevi Makris, Dikela, Kiani Akti, Demir Ali beach and only one municipal camping Ditea. From Alexandroupolis you can organize a daily excursion to Constantinopole (Istanbul) or Bulgaria. The local cuisuine is marvellous inspired from Anatolia and greek gastronomy.
